Cam Cole (Theatre Technology)

What's been your highlight during your time at Guildhall?

Learning to operate camera equipment for the short films ‘Dirtier Dishes’ and ‘SKIMMR’. Camera operation was something completely new to me coming to university, which meant I had to learn skills quickly and be able to adapt on set so shooting could run efficiently and effectively for everyone. This was especially true for equipment such as gimbals and Easy Rigs, which we needed to learn how to use safely and correctly to protect both the equipment and us as operators. These are skills that have only helped my work going forward and I believe are important as someone coming into the industry. Through this work, I have fallen in love with camera operation, and it is something I want to continue to explore into my career, as well as the work of other roles on set, such as the Director of Photography.

What other passions and projects have you enjoyed exploring during your time at Guildhall? 

Expanding my post-production knowledge through different student films, which have been developed with students across multiple different departments and degrees at Guildhall. These opportunities have allowed me to grow my knowledge with software (such as ProTools and DaVinci) that I would not usually have the chance to use during a typical production here. I have also enjoyed exploring new skills as a prop maker, with a particular highlight being the deer skull I made for Symth’s ‘Der Wald’ in 2025.

What are you most interested in working in after you graduate?

Foley is an area of work I am extremely interested in exploring more and pursuing after I graduate. Sound (especially creatively) has been something that has always interested me, even before university. However, having the opportunity to work on numerous different films during my time at Guildhall has opened my eyes to this whole new area of the industry that I find extremely fascinating. Alongside that, I am also interested in working in sound design (in TV, film, and theatre) as well as camera operation for both filmed and live productions.
