Stephan Loges and Pavlo Beznosiuk direct students from across the Music department in an unseasonal performance of Bach's early Easter Cantata, Christ Lies in Death's Bonds. To a melody derived from mediaeval plainsong, Bach sets each verse of Luther's hymn with a great variety of ensembles as he celebrates the triumph of Christ over death, albeit in a rather grave idiom. The rest of the programme promises more viscerally celebratory instrumental music.
