Three string instruments, drums and voice come together to create a unique sonic journey. Five distinct sound sources merge into an exploration of transport – the sensation of moving and being moved. These original compositions delve into the relationship between the passenger and the many modes of travel.
Cityscape Ensemble is a London-based collective led by flautist and composer Harry Trevillion. Formed in the aftermath of the pandemic, the group emerged from informal jam sessions in Hilly Fields, and has since cultivated a distinct sound that blends a wide range of influences, from the ethereal tones of Sigur Rós to the spiritual depth of Pharaoh Sanders. Their music strikes a balance between emotional resonance and intellectual depth, creating an experience that speaks to listeners on multiple levels.
Trevillion's compositions have earned praise from key figures in the music world, including Tina Edwards, Giles Peterson, and Jo Goode. The ensemble’s work has been featured across notable platforms such as Jazz FM, BBC London, Soho Radio, and Sister Midnight FM. In a short time, Cityscape has reached significant milestones, including headlining at the Love Supreme Festival, performing at top London jazz venues like Pizza Express Dean Street, and launching a sold-out EP in collaboration with the esteemed Jazz ReFreshed.
The ensemble features talented musicians from some of the UK and international jazz fusion scene's most exciting acts, including Steam Down, Greg Sperio's Spirit Fingers UK Crew, Bel Cobain, and Madison McFerrin. Drawing from their experiences with these influential groups, Cityscape has developed a signature sound that combines tight, exploratory jazz with elements of folk and alternative post-rock.
For this special concert, Cityscape is joined by two additional forces: turntablist and DJ INTERLEKT, known for his innovative use of sampling in live performances, and a live string octet. Together, they will elevate the music to new heights, blending orchestral textures with the ensemble's unique fusion, and creating a sound that promises to be both immersive and memorable.
