Event Information

Guildhall Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Scott Stroman and featuring special guest guitarist Phil Robson, present a varied programme of contemporary writing for big band including selections of fusion-tinged material as performed by Jaco Pastorius for ‘The Birthday Concert’ and the ‘Avery Fisher Hall’ gigs.

Pastorius has left a lasting legacy through his influence on both bass players and composers for big band; this performance will feature writing by composers recently featured by the Jazz Orchestra including Nikki Iles, Jim McNeely, Bill Holman, Scott Stroman and Guildhall student composers. The Jazz Orchestra is made up of a revolving line-up of current Guildhall students who collaborate on large ensemble projects to explore and celebrate the big band sound of today.

Multi-award-winning guitarist and composer Robson was a major force on the London music scene for many years and in New York between 2015 and 2020. He is now based in the beautiful countryside of County Roscommon, Ireland. He is internationally regarded as a highly versatile and creative player who appears in all kinds of diverse settings, as well as being a being a renowned bandleader & composer.
