Event Information

Students from the MEI Orchestra, Music in Secondary Schools Trust Leaders Orchestra (MiLO) and the Richard Cloudesley Open Orchestra will join forces for a magnificent concert, showcasing their collaborative work over the term, including a world premiere.

The world premiere is a piece that has been composed by a group of Islington young people in collaboration with renowned composer, Alexander Campkin. The piece has been written especially for this group of exceptional performers.

The Richard Cloudesley Open Orchestra has been running since September 2021, they play music in a different way to “traditional” orchestras so they were so excited to join up with everyone for the Isolation Project. They mainly play the keyboards and then a special instrument you may not have seen before called a Clarion. It’s an instrument that works from an app on the iPad. You’ll see each member playing their instruments in different ways to each other which makes the orchestra's own unique sound!

The MEI Orchestra is made up of young people who attend the MEI music centres at COLA Highbury Grove and Arts and Media School Islington. Every week, these young people strengthen their musical and social skills by playing in a variety of groups and ensembles.

MiLO is an exciting programme that invites the highest achieving instrumentalists from MiSST schools to run their very own chamber orchestra. MiLO challenges the role and concept of an orchestra and allows students to become real leaders of change and innovation.

The three ensembles will perform a variety of pieces throughout the evening.

This will be a relaxed performance.

Music Education Islington is the Music Education Hub for the London Borough of Islington.
