Event information
We’re delighted to welcome internationally acclaimed trombonist Toby Oft to work with Guildhall brass players in this free, open masterclass.
Toby Oft is the 12th Principal Trombone of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and is internationally recognised for his expressive sound and technical mastery. Before joining the BSO he held principal positions with the San Diego Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic and Sarasota Orchestra, and has appeared as a concerto soloist worldwide performing major works including Grøndahl’s Concerto for Trombone, David’s Concertino and Schuller’s Eine Kleine Posaunenmusik. A committed educator, he teaches at New England Conservatory and Boston University, and is a long‑standing faculty member at Tanglewood Music Center and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. An Edwards Instruments performing artist, he helped design the T350‑HB tenor trombone and his own line of Griego mouthpieces, and his album First Look showcases his distinctive artistry.
The session will last for 3 hours, but audience members are welcome to drop in at any time and they will be admitted at an appropriate moment.
