For well over a decade, James Johnstone has led imaginative collaborations between Guildhall's Vocal and Historical Performance departments, exploring sacred and secular chamber cantatas from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries (just not by Bach!)
This year’s Cantata Project presents a captivating French programme, featuring Michel Lambert’s Airs and two works by Marc-Antoine Charpentier: Reniement de St. Pierre and Plaisirs de Versailles.
For the first time, Guildhall’s Historical Performance students will be joined by vocalists from the Academy of Ancient Music (AAM), deepening a long-standing partnership that has already produced memorable performances of Handel’s Alcina and Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas.
These side-by-side projects are a highlight of our students’ year, offering audiences the chance to experience the energy and artistry of emerging performers alongside world-class professionals in an evening of expressive and intimate music making.

This programme is also performed at the London International Festival of Early Music the following day, Friday 14 November.
