During our event you will have the opportunity to meet our teaching staff and learn more about what our Music department has to offer. This is your chance to learn about the audition process and see first-hand why we are ranked fourth in the world for Music by the QS World University Rankings 2026.
Collaborative Piano Open Day

As part of our Collaborative Piano Open Day, you will get to take part in:
Concert - Hear current Guildhall collaborative pianists perform a programme of duo and song repertoire.
Q&A - Listen to Guildhall students speak about their experience at the School and have the opportunity to ask them questions.
Beethoven violin sonatas - Work with staff member Carole Presland on the Beethoven sonata movement required for your Guildhall audition.
Debussy songs - Work with Dr Bretton Brown, Senior Professor of Collaborative Piano, on the Debussy song required for your Guildhall audition.
Singing lesson - Accompany a singing lesson taught by Samantha Malk, Head of Vocal Studies.
Brahms viola sonata - Work with Deputy Head of Keyboard, Gareth Owen on the music of Johannes Brahms.
If you would like to register your interest to perform in some of these events, please email keyboard@gsmd.ac.uk after you have registered to attend the Open Day. Please note that the events are open to the public and we can’t guarantee everyone will be able to take part.

Open Day FAQs
Do I have to come for the whole day?
No - the format of the open day is very informal and allows you to plan your day as you wish. The classes and components of the open days are scheduled to show you as much of what we do and offer as possible, so it is highly beneficial to attend the entire day.
Can I attend an open day if I am 16 and have not taken my A-Levels yet?
Yes - the open days are aimed at people who are auditioning or considering auditioning. You can also attend if you are younger than 16.
Will I be able to view the halls of residence?
No, we are unable to offer visits of the halls of residence on music open days, but you can take a look inside Sundial Court in our 360 Tour.
Will I have an opportunity to speak with Guildhall Professors or students?
Yes - there will be students around all day happy to answer your questions, and you will be able to talk to professors taking the classes. However if there is someone in particular you would like to meet with please contact the relevant Principal Study department and we will do our best for you.
Do I need to bring my instrument?
You will be advised by the department hosting the open day if you need to bring your instrument.
What level are the open days aimed at?
The open days are not aimed at undergraduate or postgraduate specifically, they offer an insight to what we offer.
I have a disability – do I need to let you know?
