Rebecca Wood

Biography

Rebecca graduated from the Royal Academy of Music having spent the third year of the course studying in Hong Kong with Anthony Camden. She then completed the Postgraduate Diploma of Orchestral Studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama before beginning her working life. 

During the course of her career Rebecca has played many of the leading oboe concertos as soloist including the Mozart Concerto with the Mozart Players, many of the Baroque concertos including Vivaldi and Albinoni concertos in venues such as the Purcell Room, St Martin-in-the-Fields and the Queen Elizabeth Hall. Rebecca has been a chairholder on many of the UK’s top musicals including Oliver!, The Sound of Music, Miss Saigon, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Beauty and the Beast. She currently freelances on shows such as Les Miserables, Sweeney Todd and Wicked. She combines this with a busy freelance career with many of the UK’s leading orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, English National Opera orchestra and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. 

Rebecca started playing the oboe at the age of seven and as a teenager was a member of the National Youth Orchestra and Principal Oboe in her final year. She was also a woodwind finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition in 1992. She attended Junior Guildhall for four years and was absolutely delighted to be asked to return as oboe professor in 2010.
