Event information

Exploring mind-reading during improvisation involving humans and AI

A unique evening where pioneering research meets the spontaneity of live classical improvisations is hosted by the Centre for Creative Performance & Classical Improvisation together with the research department at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. In collaboration with the Max Planck Institute, the event features one of its directors, concert pianist and cognitive neuroscientist Fredrik Ullén, along with pianist, researcher, and improviser David Dolan, and composer and AI music programmer Oded Ben-Tal.

The programme features live duo and trio piano improvisations that involve human musicians in dialogue with (and without) AI-inspired systems. The evening ends with a lecture and discussion exploring the intersection of music, creativity, and the latest findings from cognitive neuroscience research on how we invent, listen and respond in real time.

Free, no tickets required
