Rachel Good

Biography

Rachel Good studied violin and viola at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Over the years she has worked as a freelance musician with many ensembles on both modern and period instruments. 

Rachel’s main passion though is teaching. Rachel finds nurturing students from the early years right through to young adulthood and enabling them to become independent musicians very rewarding. Many pupils have gone on to be professional musicians, playing in orchestras such as the LSO and Royal Opera House. 

Rachel currently teaches in London at the Guildhall School of Music Junior Department. She also teaches in Cambridge at The Heritage School, The Stephen Perse Foundation and Bottisham Primary and Secondary schools, as well as privately at home. In the holidays, Rachel runs chamber music courses for students and she has also been a violin and viola tutor for the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain. Many of her students also play in National Youth String Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra. Rachel has been a consultant and mentor for Music Masters, an organisation bringing music to the most disadvantaged children in inner London Schools.

During Lockdown, Rachel sent daily emails to her pupils, encouraging them to listen to music and providing an opportunity to learn more about composers and the times during which they lived. One day this might manifest itself as a book.
