Biography

Julia Holmes studied the clarinet with John McCaw at the Royal College of Music, having completed a music degree at Sussex University.  In 1979 she was a prize-winner for the South-East Arts Association “Young Musicians’ Concert Platform”, and following this she remained in London for some years, performing as a soloist/chamber musician, and working for 13 years with English Touring Opera.

Having moved to Somerset in 1995, Julia now combines performing and educational work, teaching clarinet and saxophone at home and in Bristol and Bath schools as well as at Guildhall Young Artists Taunton. Julia plays for Opera Project and other freelance work includes chamber music with the wind quintet Harmoniemusik. She has been involved with musical education workshops in primary schools under the umbrella of the English Symphony Orchestra. Recently, Julia was the soloist with Taunton Sinfonietta in the sublime Clarinet Concerto by Mozart.
