Biography

Born in London, David Stark studied with Duncan McTier and Graham Mitchell at the Royal Academy of Music, graduating with a first class BMus in 2011. David then began a busy freelance career throughout the UK.

In 2013, David took up the position of Principal Bass with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in Cardiff, and in 2017 David was appointed associate Principal Bass of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. David is in high demand as a Guest Principal Bass with many of the UK’s leading ensembles, such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia. 

David is an avid Chamber musician, and appears in many of the UK’s Chamber Music festivals throughout the year. 

David is now an Associate at the Royal Academy of Music and  teaches the Double Bass at the Royal Welsh college of Music and Drama. David regularly gives masterclasses at many of the other music colleges throughout the UK.

David plays on a William Fendt Double Bass 1848.
