Biography

Julie Monument studied the violin and piano at the Royal Academy of Music where she gained the LRAM teaching diploma & DIPRAM Recital Performance Diploma and was awarded prizes for solo and chamber music playing .

Her professors included Manoug Parikian & Trevor Williams for violin, Sidney Griller for Chamber Music, and Margaret MacDonald for piano.

Her professional career has included permanent positions with the Royal Northern Sinfonia as sub principal violin & the BBC Symphony Orchestra violin section.

Julie has freelanced with many of the UK’s finest orchestras including Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Philharmonia Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, London Virtuosi, Glyndebourne Touring Opera and Bournemouth Sinfonietta.

Performing regularly as a chamber musician, and with her violin & piano duo, Julie's recent performances have included the Beethoven Septet & Schubert Octet.

As an experienced and dedicated teacher, Julie's teaching experience spans a number of years and has included posts in London at Kingston Grammar School, Tiffin Boys and Tiffin Girls’ Schools.

Julie moved to Taunton in 2021 and since that time has been teaching at Guildhall Young Artists Taunton and Taunton Music Centre as well as developing a private teaching practice.

Julie is keen to develop her pupils' technical ability and musical awareness so they are able to reach their full potential as musicians.
