Biography
Alex (Zands) Adam Osmianski is a drummer and percussionist originally from Pittsburgh, PA, USA. Since completing his master’s degree in jazz pedagogy at West Virginia University Adam has travelled the world performing with his various projects. He has performed in concert halls, clubs and festivals in Brazil, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and throughout Europe, as well as at home in the USA.
In London Adam works as both a leader and sideman in many musical projects, primarily in the realms of jazz, Brazilian, and Cuban music. He has played on a number of commercial recordings with these, and other groups, many of which he also produced and feature his own arrangements and original compositions.
Outside the Guildhall School, Adam is a lecturer for West Virginia University, where he develops and administers online music courses in jazz history, 20th century American popular music, music in world cultures, and music technology.
As an active clinician, Adam has presented workshops at the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco in Recife, Brazil, the Tianjin Conservatory of Music in Tianjin, China, Universiti Malaya, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, amongst many others. In 2010, he was selected to present John Zorn’s Cobra at the International Society of Improvised Music convention at the University of Michigan.
