Biography & Pure profile

Soprano and vocal teacher Elizabeth Donovan studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and the National Opera Studio. She was named Welsh Singer of the Year in 2002 and represented Wales at BBC Cardiff Singer of the World in 2003, before joining Welsh National Opera as an Associate Artist.

Elizabeth has enjoyed a varied professional career in opera, concert and recital, alongside developing a particular passion for teaching and nurturing young voices. She is Professor of Voice at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and, as well as Guildhall Young Artists Taunton, Elizabeth teaches singing at Wells Cathedral School and Millfield School, working with singers at all stages of their development, from beginners to young musicians preparing for conservatoire study.

With a strong foundation in classical singing, Elizabeth’s teaching encompasses a wide range of musical styles and repertoire, with a focus on developing healthy, sustainable technique in young voices. She encourages singers to explore their own sound, discover their individual voice and grow in confidence as musicians and performers, while fostering a lifelong enjoyment of singing.
