Biography & Pure profile
Gary studied viola at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, UK as an ABRSM International Scholar. There he enjoyed guidance in solo and chamber music by Mark Knight, Christopher Rowland and Thomas Riebl, and went on to study at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid.
Gary is one quarter of the Heath Quartet, who have recently been awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society Young Artist Award, live-recorded the complete string quartets of Michael Tippett and Bela Bartok, studio recorded Tchaikovsky String Quartets 1 + 3 to critical acclaim and a Second Viennese disc of Berg and Schoenberg.
Gary now lives in London and enjoys a range of education work, including coaching the Kuumba Youth Orchestra, chamber music mentoring and viola teaching. He has recently been guest principal viola with Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra or Europe and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden.
