Finalists perform 20-minute programmes of instrumental and vocal works in this annual prize, celebrating excellence in the art of piano accompaniment, adjudicated by Annabel Thwaite.

Annabel Thwaite
Recognised as one of the most versatile and charismatic pianists of her generation, Annabel is among the most sought-after accompanists today. She received critical acclaim following her recital with Sir Bryn Terfel at Carnegie Hall, New York, and the Kennedy Center, Washington DC.
She has won all the major accompanying prizes, including the prestigious Kathleen Ferrier Award, Gold Medal and the Richard Tauber Piano Prize. As a soloist and chamber musician, Annabel has toured internationally, performing in leading venues such as the Royal Festival Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and numerous opera houses worldwide.
Her collaborations include performances with Sir Bryn Terfel, Roberto Alagna, Rebecca Evans, and the BBC Singers. She has also performed chamber music with the Danish Ensemble MidtVest and recorded for the Michael Clark Dance Company at the Barbican.
Annabel’s discography includes The Scottish Tenor for Universal Records, a disc of Romantic violin and piano works with Matthew Jones, and the complete violin and viola works of Benjamin Britten and William Walton for Naxos, which was named Chamber CD of the Month by BBC Music Magazine.
Venue information
Silk Street Theatre, Music Hall and Lecture Recital Room are located in the main Guildhall School building on Silk Street and for Barbican produced events the venue can also be accessed from the Barbican if you exit via the doors next to Barbican Kitchen on Level G.
