Biography

Sandra Smith graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a BMus degree. She continued her advanced studies in piano and organ, obtaining an LRAM in piano and a Diploma in Music Education. 

After being awarded the coveted Bucher Scholarship from Edinburgh University for study abroad, she entered the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Wien (now the University of Vienna) where she gained a diploma in Vocal and Instrumental Accompaniment and a Staatsprüfung in Harpsichord. The faculty subsequently invited her to join the staff as a repetiteur specialising in Lieder. She then moved to France to take up an appointment as repetiteur at the Théâtre des Arts in Rouen. 

On returning to London other engagements included the renowned Carmen and Tosca Arena Productions at Earls Court. She maintains a busy career as a vocal coach and accompanist, and her recital work has taken her all over Europe and to the Middle and Far East. She has been an assistant on many International Summer Schools and Masterclasses, and is currently a vocal coach at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
