About A Guide to PR in the Arts
This four-week online evening course will explore everything you need to know about arts PR from working with print, online and broadcast media outlets and media strategy, to interview techniques and how to navigate social media to tell your story.
Who is this course for?
This course is aimed at anyone aged 18 and over interested in working in or gaining an understanding of arts PR, including artists wanting to understand more.
What can I expect?
The sessions will take you through a ‘how to’ guide on arts PR. You can expect to receive expert advice and access to leading performing arts media relations agency Rebecca Driver Media Relations (RDMR).
Do I need anything for the course?
Nothing other than an interest in discovering more about the world of PR.

Eligibility
- We welcome participants from all ages 18 and over
- Participants must have sufficient English language skills in order to fully engage with the course
Online Short Courses Requirements
All sessions will take place online using Zoom. A Zoom link will be sent to you in advance of the course start date with further instructions.
To participate in online classes you will need the following:
- An email address
- A reliable internet connection
- A laptop/tablet/desktop computer with a microphone and camera (most have these included)
- Speakers/headphones (the speakers in your laptop/tablet/computer should be sufficient)
- A fully updated web browser able to use the most up to date version of Zoom, or a fully updated Zoom client

About the Course Tutors
The course is taught by Rebecca Driver and Maddie Castell.
Rebecca Driver has over 20 years’ experience in arts PR. She founded RDMR in 2010 after working in classical music PR at Dvora Lewis PR, as Publicist at the BBC Proms & later BBC Radio 3, and Head of Press at English National Opera.
Director, Maddie Castell, has been at RDMR since May 2019 and has over 15 years’ PR experience having spent a decade at the BBC Proms and Radio 3. Maddie manages the day to day running of the office and team as well as leading on up to ten clients.
Current clients include Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Aurora Orchestra, The Benedetti Foundation Britten Pears Arts including the Aldeburgh Festival, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, The English Concert, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Manchester Collective, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, The Sixteen and through the noise, as well as a number of individuals including trumpeter Alison Balsom, cellist Matthew Barley, classical guitarist Miloš, organist and composer James McVinnie, bass Brindley Sherratt and composers Anna Clyne and Freya Waley Cohen.
