‘Nine Night’ writer Natasha Gordon wins Evening Standard Theatre Award

Nine Night follows a Jamaican family coping with grief as Gloria, the grandmother of the family, dies, and the family’s London home become the centre of the traditional nine-night wake. The play transfers to the Trafalgar Theatre in December after a sold-out run at the National Theatre earlier this year.

The original cast of Nine Night also featured Guildhall alumni Franc Ashman (Acting 2006) as Lorraine, the daughter who took redundancy to care for Gloria, and Hattie Ladbury (Acting 1996) as Sophie, Gloria’s white daughter-in-law.

This year’s Evening Standard Theatre Awards also saw fellow Guildhall alumna Rona Morison (Acting 2011) nominated for the Emerging Talent Award for her performance as Sandy in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie at the Donmar Warehouse. The award was presented by on the night by Letitia Wright and Guildhall alumnus Paapa Essiedu (Acting 2012). Tom Glynn-Carney (Acting 2016) won the Emerging Talent Award in 2017 for his performance as Shane Corcoran in Jez Butterworth's The Ferryman.

The awards took place at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, with Phoebe-Waller Bridge as presenter. See the full list of award winners.
