Tabea Debus joins Guildhall School as Professor of Recorder
Guildhall School is delighted to announce the appointment of recorder virtuoso Tabea Debus to our teaching staff. Tabea, who studied as an undergraduate from 2010, returns to the School from September 2026 as Professor of Recorder in the Wind, Brass & Percussion department.
Described by The Times as a “charismatic virtuoso”, Tabea is celebrated for her performances across both baroque and contemporary music. She has premiered new works at LSO Soundhub, the Barbican’s Sound Unbound and Baroque at the Edge festivals, worked with composers including Philip Cashian, Freya Waley-Cohen, Moritz Eggert and Alex Nante, and appeared as soloist in contemporary recorder concertos with the WDR Rundfunkchor and the English Chamber Orchestra.
Tabea is an an award-winning soloist, releasing seven solo recordings to date, and has also performed alongisde fellow Guildhall alumni in recorder quartet Palisander since 2023. She regularly appears with La Serenissima and The English Concert, and has performed at Wigmore Hall, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Musica Antiqua Bolzano, Edinburgh International Festival and in Early Music Series in London, York and San Francisco, and many more.
A recorder professor at the HMTM Hannover, Tabea has also led masterclasses at the Royal Academy of Music and Royal College of Music, mdw Vienna, Chicago and Cambridge Universities.
Tabea Debus, newly appointed Professor of Recorder at Guildhall School, said: “I'm much looking forward to returning to Guildhall School to work alongside Ian Wilson, Mirjam-Luise Münzel, Catherine Fleming and Robert Ehrlich to guide aspiring recorder players through their studies, and eventually onto their own professional pathways!”
