Biography

Rob Tribe’s biggest passion is playing and teaching the guitar. After a 30-year career in journalism, in 2004 he returned to his biggest passion at the Guitar Institute in London under the tutelage of Misha Nikolic (Martin Turner ex Wishbone Ash).

A lot of practice later, Rob was teaching the next generation of rock guitarists as a course leader at the Academy Of Music and Sound in Exeter. He has seen his students go on to play at Glastonbury, support Muse, headline rock festivals and embark on fruitful careers in the music industry. This has always been achieved through a friendly approach to music, an awareness of a student’s abilities and a desire to help them improve. He currently teaches for several local schools.

As well as teaching guitar at GYA Taunton, Rob brings his extensive band experience to mentoring students in all aspects of performing live music. Currently he is the guitarist for Redfoot Rockabilly and Blackout City and plays live regularly. In doing so he balances the creativity and professionalism that drives musicians forward, allowing them to work and build a portfolio within the industry.

“I believe music is for everyone, and playing an instrument should be a joy at any level.”, he says. “I want my students to develop a fundamental belief in themselves and their abilities that will help them in every walk of life, not just as a musician.”
