Guildhall is an institution that knows it has to be connected to the outside world - that's the key thing. It's not a bubble. It has roots in the city and in the world.

One minute you could be playing in the Guildhall Studio Orchestra with jazz musicians, the next you could be playing in the opera pit, then the next minute you'll be with actors doing the musical and then playing a symphony in the orchestra.

I had the opportunity to play percussion with the Guildhall Studio Orchestra which gave me the chance to learn from, and play alongside, amazing senior players, as well as to perform with the incredible Liane Carroll.

At Guildhall, they don't hold your hand, but they're going to push you to become the actor that you want to be.

It's the scale of productions that really makes Guildhall stand out. It gets to the point where you think, wow, this is massive. In other places, you just wouldn't have that opportunity to learn on the job.

Alumni from the School’s Acting programme deliver a range of exciting workshops, which give an insight into the training that we offer at Guildhall.

Whole Group sessions

Ten sessions are available for eligible schools, colleges, and theatre groups and youth organisations on a group-booking basis. If you are a teacher or youth group leader you can find out more, and express interest in a session, by completing this online form. Previous sessions have included:

  • Overcoming nerves and anxiety
  • Building confidence
  • Movement
  • Self-taping

Individual sign-ups

Young people all over the UK can sign up to these online sessions, which are suitable for beginner level participants, and provide an opportunity to meet new, like-minded young actors.

Download the Schedule for April-May 2021 (PDF). Sessions will run on Zoom, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 4-6pm.

To begin with, we will consider applicants on a first come first served basis, but will then move to an allocation model where the number of previous sessions attended will be considered, to ensure fairness.

If you interested in taking part in the sessions, please sign up.

If you aren’t available for any of the March sessions, don’t worry! There will be one more, month-long, Taste of Guildhall instalments in the spring and summer.

  • 1 June – 1 July

Check this page for session details nearer the time.

Monologue Bootcamp

This summer school equips young actors at the beginning of their acting journey with the skills to research, select, interpret and deliver a monologue with confidence, preparing them for Drama School auditions, and offering an insight to the School. The course is intensive, offering 35 hours of group activity and a 30minute 1:1 tutorial over three weeks, with an expectation that participants will work on their pieces between sessions. Applications will open in spring 2021.

“The Monologue Bootcamp was such a helpful course, and has definitely made me feel far more confident and relaxed, and also has given me much more information on the Guildhall Acting learning style and the values that are held, which is extremely helpful.”

Originate

Offered in collaboration with RADA, Theatre Peckham, and RADA, Originate prepares young actors for Drama School and the industry via an intensive eight month programme. The online sessions will train participants to perform for the stage and screen, and the project will culminate in the devising, filming and screening of an innovative short film.

Applications for 2020/21 have now closed, but you can keep up to date with the group’s progress via our Twitter page, and book onto the online screening in summer 2021.
