Guildhall is an institution that knows it has to be connected to the outside world - that's the key thing. It's not a bubble. It has roots in the city and in the world.

One minute you could be playing in the Guildhall Studio Orchestra with jazz musicians, the next you could be playing in the opera pit, then the next minute you'll be with actors doing the musical and then playing a symphony in the orchestra.

It's the scale of productions that really makes Guildhall stand out. It gets to the point where you think, wow, this is massive. In other places, you just wouldn't have that opportunity to learn on the job.

Music Auditions Overseas

Due to recent global events, it is with regret that we are unable to travel to our overseas venues for auditions this spring.

All applicants who requested a live overseas audition will now be asked to upload a video audition and candidates have been emailed with instructions about the next steps.

If you have not received an email communication about this change, please email music_applications@gsmd.ac.uk and we will be able to re-send the information to you. Submitting a recorded audition will not impact on the result of your application.

Audition requirements

For details of audition repertoires for each Principal Study, please visit our Music Audition and Application Procedure page.

Application fees

You can find a list of our overseas application fees on our general fees webpage. Please ensure your application fee arrives by the deadline as applications cannot be processed without it.

How to apply

If you were intending to apply for a live overseas audition, you must apply online and should instead choose ‘recorded’ as your audition venue.  The deadline for applications is 15 January 2021.

Find out how to apply and make your online application.

We very much hope to travel to our overseas venues for the 2022/23 entry cycle.
