About Acting Summer School for Ages 18+
This two-week in-person course will give you an insight into actor training, by exploring the fundamentals of acting in a supportive environment.
Collaborating with a blend of Guildhall faculty members and visiting industry professionals, you will take part in a series of stand-alone, craft-based masterclasses exploring movement, voice and a variety of acting techniques, alongside intensive workshop sessions with a professional director. The course will culminate in an informal sharing of work created throughout the course with your peers. This is an internal sharing for course participants only.
Who is the course for?
- Anyone with a passion for acting. The course is open to 18+ but there is no upper age limit.
- No previous experience is needed, but a willingness and desire to share your work with your peers is a necessity in order to participate fully.
What can I expect?
The course has a strong practical focus – learning by doing. You will work in a group of up to 16 participants. You can expect to cover topics including:
- Ensemble
- Voice
- Movement
- Creating Work
- Improvisation
- Audition technique
- Screen technique
- Contemporary text
- Scene study
- Audio technique
Do I need anything for the course?
- Clothing appropriate for movement sessions.
- Set texts may need to be purchased (details to be confirmed).

Eligibility
- For everyone aged 18+.
- No previous experience is necessary.
- Participants must have sufficient English language skills to cope with course demands.

Accommodation is located in Sundial Court, the School's student halls of residence. Rooms will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Should we not be able to facilitate your booking, you will be notified via email and a full refund will be issued.
About the Course Tutors
You will work with a project director and industry professionals appointed by the course leader. These will be confirmed near to the course start date.
This course has been developed by Simon Money.
Simon spent three years working as a resident voice practitioner at the National Theatre, working with leading global theatre makers. He is now a full-time member of the Acting Department at Guildhall School, where he also trained as a voice and dialect coach, spending two years apprenticed to Patsy Rodenburg.
A passionate advocate of actor training, Simon has taught voice and dialect at Guildhall School, LAMDA and Central School of Speech and Drama. In his freelance career Simon has worked with Wise Children, the Royal Shakespeare Company, Royal Opera House, Danish Royal Opera, Bristol Old Vic, New Diorama, Orange Tree and many others.
