Event information

The Nigerian-Scottish trumpeter performs Armenian composer Alexander Arutiunian’s showpiece mid-20th century trumpet concerto with its jaw-dropping moments in abundance.

Aaron Azunda Akugbo is a trumpeter bursting with charm, musicality and natural humour. A sought-after guest principal and soloist, he regularly performs with many of the UK’s leading orchestras, and also fronts Connaught Brass, one of the nation’s top chamber ensembles.

Collectively titled This is London, the LSSO has commissioned one composer from each of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal College of Music and Guildhall School of Music & Drama to compose a piece that draws inspiration from a characteristic of London today. Themes include the soundscape of a bustling East London park, the impact of climate change on the city, the experience of being an immigrant in London and the appearance and disappearance of venues in its grassroots music scene.

This concert will finish at approximately 9.30pm, including a 20-minute interval (timings are subject to change).
