Congratulations to composers Daniel Davis (Doctoral Researcher in Composition) and Sylvia Lim (Doctoral Composer 2019 and Guildhall professor) who have been announced as participants for the 2019/20 London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) Young Composers Programme, and to alumni Sophia Rees (Viola 2016) and Tamaki Sugimoto (Cello 2018) who have been announced as participants for the 2019/20 LPO Foyle Future Firsts.

The programmes offer exciting opportunities for young musicians and composers. The Foyle Future Firsts is designed to nurture and develop talented orchestral players, while the LPO Composers Programme offers emerging composers the opportunity to workshop a new piece with the Orchestra's musicians across a year, leading to a public performance showcasing the new works.

A number of Guildhall alumni and staff have participated in the LPO Young Composers Programme since it began in 2006, including Clare Elton, Laurence Osborn, Yvonne Eccles, Peter Longworth, Laura Jane Bowler and Mica Levi.

Professor Julian Philips, Head of Composition at Guildhall, said: “On behalf of the Guildhall School Composition Department, I am really delighted that two outstanding Guildhall composers, Sylvia Lim and Daniel Davies, have been selected to participate in this LPO composers scheme. This is a wonderful opportunity for both Sylvia and Daniel, and I’m sure that both composers will make distinctive and imaginative contributions.”
