Guildhall School announces the Gold Medal Winners for Acting and Production Arts 2019

The winner of the Acting Gold Medal is Mirren Mack who has just completed the BA (Hons) Acting programme. The award is given to the student who, in the opinion of the Acting staff, has most embraced the spirit and ethos of the training. In her final year at Guildhall School, Mack played the role of Naz in the season’s opening production of Mercury Fur. She was also part of the company who devised Towers with Ameera Conrad and played the role of Electra in Orestes. Most recently, she played the role of Joanne in the musical Merrily We Roll Along.

Mack will soon be appearing in season 2 of Sex Education for Netflix in the role of Florence. She is represented by Independent Talent and has been supported in her study by a Josephine Hart Scholarship, The Laurence Olivier Bursary, The Actors’ Children’s Trust and a Dewar Arts Award.

The Production Arts Gold Medal goes to Tom Mackey who has just completed the BA (Hons) Technical Theatre Arts (Theatre Technology) programme. The award is given to a student who, in the opinion of the Production Arts staff, has consistently surpassed all expectations in whatever role they have undertaken, demonstrating exceptional interpersonal skills and making a significant contribution to the department.

Mackey has most recently undertaken the role of Production Manager on Merrily We Roll Along and was Assistant Lighting Designer on the immersive experience Beasts of London at the Museum of London.

During his time at Guildhall School he has worked on a number of productions in a lighting and design capacity, including: production electrician on Saturday, Sunday, Monday; system design for The Light Tunnel at Guildhall School’s installation at Waddesdon Manor’s Christmas festival; production electrician for The Reflective Conservatoire Opening Ceremony; and lighting technician at Bloc.

After graduating, Mackey aims to pursue a career in lighting for live events and the music industry whilst also developing his own light installations in collaboration with other artists and creatives.
