The Messengers featured in Made At Uni campaign celebrating the impact of universities

Barbican Guildhall Creative Learning band The Messengers have been featured in the new Made At Uni campaign which celebrates ways universities have improved everyday life.
The Messengers is a unique collaborative venture which sees people from vastly different backgrounds, with equally diverse stories, find a common purpose in writing and performing music together. The group is comprised of Guildhall musicians and people who seek support from St Mungo's homeless charity and are at varying stages of recovery from issues related to homelessness.
Since their formation five years ago, the band has graduated from performing in a small community hall in Hackney to appearing on the main stage at Field Day in 2016 alongside US musician Doug Hream Blunt. In summer 2017, they recorded for David Byrne’s Luaka Bop label and performed with Doug Hream Blunt at Walthamstow Garden Party and Camden’s Jazz Café.
The Messengers aims to provide Guildhall musicians with the opportunity to learn how to work in a range of settings, and enable the charity for the homeless to give their students opportunities that will strengthen social skills and boost their confidence.
