Kick the new year off with a creative evening course
Our programme of Spring Evening courses covers music, drama, writing, skills for the creative industries and more.
The courses are for those aged 18 and over and run on weekday evenings for up to eight weeks from 20 January to 18 March 2026.
Our in-person courses take place across Guildhall School's campus in central London, which includes the state-of-the-art Milton Court and our iconic Silk Street building.
Alternatively, join us from wherever you are in the world with our online short courses.
Spring Evening courses include:
- Developing a Marketing Strategy in the Arts (online), a new course giving an in-depth introduction to marketing strategy in arts and cultural organisations, teaching you to deliver thoughtful strategic marketing that plugs directly into your organisation’s vision, mission and values.
- Improvisation: Level 2 (in-person), ideal if want to improve your comedy or acting skills, or simply to unleash your creativity, be sure to have lots of fun, in a safe and supportive environment.
- Introduction to Event & Production Management (online), the perfect introduction to the skills required to manage a variety of shows and events, whilst understanding the significant challenges that come with such a varied role.
- Music Production in Ableton Live (online), designed to help build the foundational knowledge needed to produce music from start to finish with the popular Ableton Live software.

Acting Shakespeare
Age: 18+
This six-week evening course for beginners will give you the tools you need to approach and perform Shakespeare with confidence. The course will unravel and demystify Shakespeare’s language through practical exercises, identifying key acting clues within the text.

Comedy and Performance
Age: 18+
Learn practical techniques to successfully draw out the comedic elements of your performance through a series of games, exercises and scenes. Aimed at actors wanting to find the comedy within their performance, but also suitable for comedians who want to improve their stage presence and everyone in between.

Improvisation: Level 2
Age: 18+
Take comedy and drama improvisation to another level. Whether you aspire to be on a comedy panel show, want to develop your acting skills, or simply enjoy a pressure-free creative outlet, this course will help you think on your feet, realise your potential, and work on more sophisticated scenes.

Introduction to Acting Practice: Level 1
Age: 18+
This course for beginners explores what 'good acting' might be and how to achieve it. During the six sessions you will work with the course tutor to develop truthfulness and connection to text.

Introduction to Acting Practice: Level 2
Age: 18+
Further develop your work and grow as an actor, focussing on building confidence through regular scene rehearsals and group sharing. This course helps participants to develop new ways to approach characters and connect to text.

Introduction to Directing: Preparing for Rehearsals
Age: 18+
Led by Olivier-nominated theatre and film director Amy Hodge, this course will give you an introduction into directing for theatre. Learn key techniques in order to analyse text and understand character objectives, make performance decisions and apply these in the rehearsal room.

Stanislavsky: A Practical Introduction
Age: 18+
This eight-week evening course will equip you with acting techniques set out by Konstantin Stanislavsky, considered the father of modern acting. The course, which will encourage you to build and develop character through exercises created by Stanislavsky, is designed to take the fear out of what can sometimes come across as a daunting system.

This eight-week evening course for beginners will introduce you to singing and a number of techniques and exercises that will help to build confidence while improving your voice.

Writing for an Orchestra: Beginners
Age: 18+
Perfect for any composers and musicians with a passion for orchestral music, this course will use musical excerpts to demonstrate the basics of composing for the instruments of an orchestra.
Creative Writing for Live Performance: Level 1
Age: 18+
Develop your creative writing skills and learn how to bring an idea for theatre to life. The course will focus on sparking ideas and creating theatre and storytelling through text, with an active approach to playwriting and creative writing that will bring writers away from their desks.

Writing for Screen: Level 2

Focussing on writing for TV and film, this course will develop your creative writing skills and is ideal for people who have a first draft of a pilot script that they would like to develop throughout the course.
Theatre Uncovered: Understanding Stagecraft
Age: 18+
Focus on different ways of analysing theatre, and be empowered to talk about your experience as an audience member. Think like a professional theatre-maker, analyse like a reviewer, and gain the tools to be an expert of your own opinion. From design to direction, and acting to sound, this course will unveil the ingredients used in creating a production.

Film Music Composition: Beginners Age: 18+

This online six-week course will cover the essentials of contemporary film composing, from writing for different genres with electronic, orchestral and other instruments, to producing and mixing film scores, working with sound design and responding to briefs from directors.

Build the foundational knowledge needed to produce music from start to finish with the popular Ableton Live software. Cover topics such as effect processing, recording, synthesis/sampling, arrangement, automation and the basics of mixing.
