Introduction

Introduction

It is a pleasure to Chair The Guildhall School Trust Board, and a responsibility about which I care deeply. I'm an alum myself, and know how hard the performing arts professions can be, in the first instance just being able to fund the years of hard graft required, whether you're an actor, a musician or a production artist.

Our role is to encourage funding from wherever possible, and then to act as responsible stewards of it before it reaches the students it is intended for. One of the greatest pleasures in my role is being able to see, day in, day out, the results of our work, and most importantly that of the work of the staff of Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the students themselves.

If you are interested in experiencing a performance, then don't hesitate to reach out to me - I'd love you to find out first-hand why the School is in the top 3 in the world for performing arts. And in a chaotic world, with so many causes to support, you might think: why the arts? Well, for me it's about our humanity, and what makes us unique. A world without the performing arts would be barren and unimaginative (and unimaginable). So do consider finding out more about our City's own/only conservatoire, as it needs your support.

Aina Miyagi

'The support I receive means that I can stay in London and finish my studies without the looming anxiety of financial inadequacy. It means I can continue to learn, develop, and get inspired by the incredible surrounding of Barbican and the arts across London. I get to be a part of important work and feed my curiosity. I am thrilled and very honoured to be able to continue my studies with the help from my award.'
