Consultation Lessons
Consultation lessons for music offer holders
Congratulations once again on your offer to study at Guildhall School! We are delighted that you are considering joining us.
We understand that choosing a principal study teacher is an integral factor in deciding where to study. We are delighted to offer each music offer holder up to two free consultation lessons with Guildhall professors, and we hope this will help you to make an informed choice.
Booking details and further information about the process is found below.
Please contact your Department Manager if you have any questions about consultation lessons. Their details can be found in the relevant section below. If you would like to obtain guidance from your Head of Department about suitable professors for your consultation, the Department Manager will also be able to help you with this.
We hope that you will find your consultations helpful and worthwhile, and we very much hope to welcome you into the Guildhall School community in September!
Booking process
You may book up to two consultation lessons free of charge, each with an expected duration of around 60 minutes.
Please refer to the relevant department section below to see the list of professors with whom you may request to take a lesson. If your desired tutor is not listed, please contact the relevant Department Manager to request further information about consultation options.
You may elect to take two lessons with the same professor, or you may choose two different professors. Please note that some of our tutors are exceptionally popular, and it may not always be possible to arrange lessons for all candidates who request them. If this is the case, you will be advised accordingly and you may select another tutor. We encourage offer holders to request consultations as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
To request your consultation lesson(s), you must complete a Microsoft form, which is linked under the relevant department section below.
Once we receive your completed Microsoft form, you will be invited to contact the tutors directly to arrange your lessons. Lessons will usually be conducted in-person for those who are able to attend the school, and remote/online lessons can be arranged for those who are located overseas.
We will ask you to confirm with us once your consultation lessons are complete. If you decide to accept your place, we encourage you to reach out to your Department Manager straight away to make a request your preferred principal study tutor.

The WBP Department operates a bespoke allocation process for consultation lessons.
Following your audition/interview, our instrumental specialists carefully consider your musical profile, including your style of playing, areas for technical and musical development, and your long-term aspirations.
The Head and Deputy Heads of the Department will then liaise with offer holders directly about suitable professors, with whom they feel you are most closely aligned.
Therefore, Wind, Brass and Percussion (WBP) offer holders should not complete the Microsoft form - if you do not hear from us about consultation lessons shortly after your offer has been issued, please email the WBP Manager.
